Production Engineer
Central - CBD

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with mBlox Project Managers.  Taking ownership of associated Production tasks to implement new mBlox products.
  • Work and resolve incoming escalation tickets.
  • Collaborate closely with Carrier Management team for the setup of Message Delivery Proxies to connect carriers within the global mobile network.
  • Accurate recording and tracking of all changes made to all managed systems.
  • Work closely with NMC and Customer Support teams in providing day to day support to customer escalations and problem solving on the incident tickets.
  • Provide technical support to global Production teams on global projects/deployments.
  • Provide technical guidance to the NMC team in handling day to day issues.
  • Help provide daily operational support and administrator for Linux based systems including the installation, configuration and regular upgrades/maintenance of the mBlox core routing applications within a 24/7 global operation.

Requirements:

  • Degree or equivalent, achieved in a technical discipline.
  • 2+ years of experience within a production support environment.
  • Good technical knowledge, particularly in a UNIX/Linux environment.
  • Good understanding of TCP/IP, networking, client/server applications.
  • Experience using monitoring tools and various network management tools such as bind, tcpdump, ifconfig, netstat, syslog, route, sendmail, mrtg, iptables, SNMP etc.
  • Experience in Postgres/MySQL/Oracle.
  • Operational experience with Java technologies.
  • Experience with installing, maintaining and adapting Open Source Software for bespoke environments with a performance tuning, optimizing and security.
  • Excellent problem resolution skills with the ability to process multiple tasks concurrently and follow through to completion.
  • Must be comfortable in dealing with suppliers and customers on a technical level.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as and when required to help support global Production teams.
  • Required to be available for on-call out of hours rota for weekend support.
  • Must have excellent communication skills and attitude.
  • Ability to work with employees at all levels throughout the business.
  • Knowledge of standard & telecom protocols such as SMPP, UCP, XML (SOAP) and HTTP is desired.
  • Experience of Apache + Tomcat is a plus.
  • Good scripting skills using either bash, awk or Perl would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of SMTP (Sendmail, Postfix and Exim), DNS, NIS/NFS and backup tools is desired.
  • Previous experience within the SMS or Telecoms industry is preferred.
  • Self-managing, resourceful and willingness to adopt existing company standards and to work to develop new company standards when appropriate.
  • Solid hands-on systems administration skills.
