The global COVID-19 pandemic has seen many companies go on a hiring freeze with some even taking drastic measures, from pay cuts to layoffs. It is a tough time for many as businesses try to find their footing in a changing economic landscape, and employees adjust to a new norm of work-life where only essential services boast great possibilities during this period.

However not all hopes are lost! According to Jobstreet's internal database (by comparing jobs posted before COVID-19 vs during COVID-19), we have seen an increase in hiring for these key sectors:

1. Security/ Armed Forces/ Protective Service

This sector sees the largest growth with a 31% spike in jobs posted on Jobstreet. As we continue into our extended Circuit Breaker, these frontline services secure the safety of people, hence an increase in demand.

Job scopes range from management of security operational activities, routine patrols, administration of reports, to the checking of people, buildings and premises, and more. Most posts include on-the-job training with new hire bonuses from $1,000 - $8,000 as well as a basic salary of up to $3,500/month.
