Now that you've survived half of the year, it's a great time for you to do a career review. How far are you from reaching your goals that you have set for yourself this year? Let's list down a few steps to help you to do your mid-year career review, to evaluate if you are on the right track to achieving your goals.

1) Review your career goals

It's important to assess where you are at in your career, and where you want to be in the next few years. Are you on track to your goals? Are your goals still realistic and compelling? Are these goals relevant? Do you want to achieve more than your current goals? These are some questions to help you review and adjust your goals accordingly, so that you have a clearer direction to work towards.

If you find that wherever you're at isn't serving you well to be the best that you want to be, maybe it's time to consider a career switch. Take a look online at job vacancies or seek career guidance to find the right fit for you.

2) Evaluate your performance

Let's look at your achievements for the year. Make a list of accomplishments that you're proud of - did you ace that presentation? Helped bring a new project on board? Contributed to greater efficiency? Acknowledge the hard work that you've done, and take a moment to celebrate the achievements, no matter big or small.

3) Chart your progress

Next, let's find out how to do better. A good way to evaluate your progress is to find out how far are you from achieving your goals. It can be something simple, for example have you been able to achieve sales target consistently? How much of your savings have you been able to set aside? Has your current performance been ahead or on schedule? If you find that there are areas that you haven't been able to hit your goals, we need to identify those areas for improvement.

4) Adjust career plan

You know yourself best, so once you've identified the problem areas that you can work on, you can make actionable plans to be better. For example, say you're lacking in technical expertise on UX coding. You can plan to take free online classes to gain more knowledge on this, for a start. Give yourself a deadline, so that you can keep track of achievable goals. Small steps push you forward to achieve your specific career goals.

5) Note down your achievements

Once you've identified your achievements, remember to update it in your profile/ resume. This is not only a great way to motivate yourself, it can also help you attract potential employers seeking out your specific talent to value-add to their company, which are great prospects for better career opportunities.
