SINGAPORE, 18 September 2017 — For many jobseekers, writing a cover letter and going for an interview can be quite a daunting experience. In April 2017, JobStreet.com commissioned a fun yet educational video on job-interview preparation, which made it to Google's Top 10 Singapore YouTube Ads.
In the video, employees of TheSmartLocal reacted to the cover letters they submitted, which landed them an interview and eventually a job. The humourous and raw style of the video is a testament to JobStreet.com's willingness to embrace an innovative marketing strategy to engage its target audiences, as well as to provide insightful knowledge and guidance to job seekers.
The video highlighted the importance of understanding a company's culture when penning a cover letter. TheSmartLocal is a young and vibrant company, and many of the personalities in the video demonstrated an understanding of this, opting to let their quirky traits shine in the cover letters. They discussed the need to edit and proofread cover letters, and getting rid of typo errors or inappropriate descriptions. The personalities also recounted their first, nerve-racking interviews, which were filled with hilarious anecdotes, and stressed the need to make a good first impression.
