What's it like to be a Credit Controller?
Credit Controllers conduct credit checks and manage debts. They can also be tasked with collecting debts for a company. Aside from ensuring the timely payment of debts, Credit Controllers must also process invoices, maintain ledgers, report issues and highlight potential risks. In order to perform their duties efficiently, Credit Controllers should be detail-oriented and possess strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Tasks and duties
- Evaluating and managing debts of clients.
- Conducting credit checks and evaluating new credit requests.
- Managing and collecting debts from debtors.
- Creating policies that ensure timely payments.
- Communicating with clients and customers.
- Negotiating payment plans.
- Overseeing the sales ledger.
- Processing invoices and other necessary paperwork.
- Preparing statements and reports for accountants.
How to become a Credit Controller
You need a relevant qualification and work experience to become a Credit Controller.

Complete a bachelor degree in a related field, such as finance, economics, business or accounting.

Gain experience in a credit company. This could be through an internship while you study.
