What's it like to be an Electrician?
Electricians install and maintain a variety of electrical systems including lighting, circuit systems and safety switches. These systems may be installed in residential and commercial buildings. An Electrician must be able to read and work with different blueprints, electrical codes and diagrams for the installation of electrical systems. Electricians can work for an employer or be self-employed as contractors.
Tasks and duties
- Installing electrical hardware and equipment.
- Completing wiring connections for electrical systems.
- Troubleshooting any electrical issues, safety hazards and malfunctions.
- Supervising less experienced electrical workers to ensure adherence to proper electrical standards.
- Performing maintenance and repairs as needed.
How to become an Electrician
To work as an Electrician, formal education is required.

Graduate with a GCE N Level, Professional Certificate, NiTEC/ITE in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent course.
