What's it like to be an Executive Assistant?
Executive Assistants help C-suite or top management executives become more productive by handling tasks for them. This could include arranging travel details, organising meetings, supervising staff, or preparing reports. An Executive Assistant may also be tasked to represent the executive in some meetings when necessary.

- Handling official communication including phone calls and emails.
- Planning meetings and travel of senior executives.
- Setting the executive's daily schedule.

- Booking meeting rooms and making reservations at restaurants or hotels.
- Creating slides for presentation.
- Recording minutes of meetings.
- Compiling, filing, and retrieving documents, records and reports.
- Researching and preparing reports.
- Organising and managing corporate events.
- Collaborating with other executive assistants and office staff.
The range of tasks an Executive Assistant performs depends on the nature of the company. But the nature of these tasks usually relates to organisation and planning, records management, financial functions, and human resources.
How to become an Executive Assistant
You will need at least a high school diploma or GED certification to work as an Executive Assistant. Significant office experience is beneficial.
Complete secondary school education. You will need a high school diploma or equivalent, such as your General Education Development certification (GED).
Gain experience in an office doing administrative tasks. With sufficient experience and an excellent work record, you could be promoted to Executive Assistant.
Advance your education. Consider completing a bachelor degree in office administration.
Earn additional certification such as the Certified Administrative Professional (CAP) to further your credentials.
