What's it like to be a Cleaner?
Cleaners perform cleaning and sanitary duties within an establishment. This can include vacuuming, wiping surfaces and removing rubbish. As cleaning is a physical and mobile role, Cleaners are expected to be physically fit to handle and carry large cleaning equipment, to stand and move for long periods of time, and to perform cleaning tasks efficiently.
Tasks and duties
- Performing a variety of cleaning duties such as sweeping floors, mopping, polishing, vacuuming, dusting furniture and surfaces, emptying trash and wiping windows and surfaces.
- Ensuring sanitary and safety measures are adhered to.
- Handling cleaning equipment.
- Monitoring and inspecting sanitary standards in assigned areas.
- Maintaining, stocking and organising cleaning equipment and supplies.
- Transporting dirty linens to designated areas and replacing them with clean linens.
How to become a Cleaner
You don’t need a qualification to work as a Cleaner. Many Employers prefer candidates with at least a secondary school certificate, as well as relevant training.
