What's it like to be an Electronics Engineer?
Electronics Engineers are professionals who design, develop and test electronic equipment such as broadcast and communications systems, GPS devices or portable music players. They work on a variety of technologies including broadcasting, computing, telecommunication and product manufacturing industries. These engineers often work in teams, interacting with designers, analysts, and sales staff to develop complex electronic components and products. Their daily duties involve creating and implementing electronic systems to optimise efficiency, providing technical advice and meeting safety regulations.
Tasks and duties
- Designing electronic components, software, products or systems for various industries such as: commercial, industrial, medical, military or scientific applications.
- Evaluating systems and recommending design modifications or equipment repair.
- Inspecting electronic equipment, instruments and systems to meet safety standards and applicable regulations.
- Planning and developing applications and modifications for electronic properties used in parts and systems.
- Preparing necessary criteria, procedures, reports and plans for successful conduct of projects.
- Working with project managers on production efforts to ensure that projects are completed satisfactorily, on time and within budget.
- Researching parts availability and recommend substitute parts or generate new designs as necessary.
