What's it like to be an Enrolled Nurse?
Enrolled Nurses are healthcare professionals who provide basic nursing care. Their tasks may include checking a patient’s vital signs and monitoring their condition to ensure that they are comfortable. They also help in explaining any procedures to a patient’s family and other healthcare providers.
Tasks and duties
- Managing patient appointments.
- Overseeing patient records and making sure they are updated.
- Promoting a therapeutic environment for the comfort of patients.
- Assisting Doctors in performing dressings, venipunctures, removal of stitches, and other minor surgeries.
- Checking the equipment in the ambulance and ensuring that it is still in good condition.
- Assisting in transporting patients from the admissions room/area to their patient ward.
Enrolled Nurses typically work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, and can also perform administrative tasks. They may also participate in emergency situations and rehabilitation exercises.
How to become an Enrolled Nurse
To work as an Enrolled Nurse, you must complete a formal qualification and gain certification.
Complete your secondary school certificate.
Complete a 2-year diploma in nursing. You will receive necessary education regarding the principles of nursing care. After the theory part, you will undergo training wherein you will be entrusted to a mentor who can help you.
After getting your diploma in nursing, you must pass the state certification exam.
Once you get your certification, look for employment in various hospitals, clinics, schools, and nursing homes.
